When someone searches “dentist near me” or “travel agent in Ulhasnagar”, Google shows a map with three businesses at the top. Those three get most of the calls. Your Google Business Profile (earlier called Google My Business) is what decides whether you are one of them.
1. Use your real business name
Don’t add keywords or city names to your business name unless they are part of your actual signboard. Keyword-stuffed names break Google’s guidelines and can get your profile suspended.
2. Choose the right categories
Your primary category matters most. Pick the one that best describes your main service, then add relevant secondary categories. Many businesses miss out on searches simply because a category is missing.
3. Keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere
Your address and phone number should be written exactly the same on your Google profile, website, Facebook page, Justdial and other directories. Inconsistent details reduce Google’s trust in your listing.
4. List every service
Add all your services with short descriptions. This helps Google match you to more specific searches.
5. Add real photos regularly
Upload photos of your office or shop, team and work every month. Real photos build trust with customers far more than stock images.
6. Post weekly
Google Posts — offers, updates, new work — show that your business is active.
7. Get genuine reviews and reply to all of them
Ask every happy customer for a review with a direct link on WhatsApp. Reply to every review personally. Never buy reviews — Google removes them and can penalise the profile.
8. Connect a good website
Your website should mention your area, show your address and map, and load quickly on mobile. Google uses it to understand what you do and where.
How long does it take?
Some improvements show within weeks, but strong ranking gains usually take 3–6 months of consistent work. Nobody can guarantee a position — but a complete, active, well-reviewed profile consistently beats neglected ones.
